The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) is Ethiopia's national stock exchange. It opened for trading in January 2025 and is the country's first organised secondary market for shares, allowing investors to buy and sell stakes in listed Ethiopian companies at publicly quoted prices. It is regulated by the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) under Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021.
Before ESX, Ethiopian share transfers happened privately between buyers and sellers, with no published price. Listing puts a continuous, visible price on a company's shares - which is what the board above tracks.
